2016 Sony World Photography Awards

1- Wake-up Call

The first prize in the Open category was won by photographer Alex Ingle, who captured the moment of pure joy on a little boy’s face before he jumped onto his grandfather’s legs to wake him up.

2- Cuba Beach

Two ladies take a swim in Havana in Alexandre Meneghini’s semi-submerged picture, taken on the second hottest day ever recorded in Cuba. The snap took the top spot in the Open People category.

3- Enchanted Bamboo Lights

A haunting picture of bright fireflies blinking between the trunks of bamboo trees earned Kei Nomiyama first prize in the Open Low Light category.

4- The Lantern Store

A lady waits patiently for customers to arrive at her lantern emporium in Hoi An, Vietnam. Photographer Swee Choo Oh captured the moment, and came top in the Open Arts and Culture contest.

5- Snow Central Park at 10,000 Ft

Flying above New York City, photographer Filip Wolak managed to capture this pristine aerial shot of Central Park – the winning entry in the Open Architecture category.

6- Church on The Fields Of Soroko Polje

Photographer Andrej Tarfila couldn’t resist the opportunity to photograph the morning haze as it hung like gauze over the Slovenian countryside. His shot won the Open Travel contest.

7- Splashing Birds

Two birds caught unaware by a crashing wave, captured by street photographer Chaiyot Chanyam, was the winner in the Open Split Second category.

8- Bath Time

A contented polar bear splashes cheerfully in the water. Michaela Smidova’s picture won in the Open Nature & Wildlife contest.

9- Godafoss

The Godafoss waterfalls in Iceland are famed for their astonishingly blue waters and pristine white cliffs. This long-exposure shot took the top prize in the Open Panoramic competition.

10- Sarah

Sam Delaware’s portrait of his sister Sarah won the Youth Portraiture contest, thanks the image’s complicated emotional pull.

11- Mount Kazbek in Frame

Anais Stupka took this landscape image of a mountain in Georgia through a window, adding an extra layer to the picture, which won the Youth Environment category.
