A Zarb-e-Azb against foreign elements is Needed
The Pakistan-India bilateral relationship is again in the headlines, but this time not for the right reasons. With the arrest of Kulbushan Yadav, a serving Indian Navy officer and RAW spy, the chronically topsy-turvy relationship has to face another bump in the road. Yadav, who was being directly handled by RAW’s chief, the Indian National Security Adviser and the joint secretary, he was assigned the task to impede the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project and carry out various activities in Balochistan and Karachi. While restrained statements from both sides and a willingness to collaborate in investigations of major incidents signals political maturity, a persistent question mark hangs over the future of their fragile bilateral relations.
On March 24, Pakistan arrested Kulbushan Yadav, an agent of the Indian intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) which has been long involved in perpetrating terrorism inside Pakistan in order to destabilise the country and to achieve its nefarious designs. Yadav’s confessional statement was full of explosives as it unmasked the real face of RAW and Indian leadership. The presence of a serving officer of India’s defence forces in Pakistan is a serious matter and must be investigated accordingly.
Although in the past too, various agents of Indian spy agency RAW had been arrested in Pakistan, yet the case of Kulbushan Yadav, which proves presence of India’s espionage network in the country, needs special analysis. Yadav had confessed that during his stay, he contacted various Baloch separatist leaders and insurgents, including Dr Allah Nazar Baloch, to execute the task to damage the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project (CPEC). So, his arrest is purely an issue directly related to the country’s security and should be handled accordingly.
Considering that Kulbhushan was based in Iran, the issue was raised with Iranian President Dr Hassan Rouhani during his meeting with Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Raheel Sharif, while Rouhani was on a state visit to Pakistan.
Considering that Kulbhushan was based in Iran, and acknowledging the criticality of the issue, Islamabad formally sent a six-point letter to Iran whereby it asked Tehran “to immediately arrest and hand over an individual identified as Rakesh, alias Rizwan, for interrogation; verify activities of Kulbhushan Yadav along with records of visits to Iran; provide a record of his stay in Iran including cities visited and the duration of these visits; provide a record of people he interacted with and purpose of these interactions; share details of RAW networks on Iranian soil and share any other details related to the matter”.
A brief analysis of the RAW activities in Pakistan reveals that the spying network has been operating at two levels to subvert Pakistan. Firstly, it has been involved in orchestrating false flag operations on its own soil like 2008 Mumbai attacks and more recently the Pathankot attack, and then blaming Pakistan for it.
Secondly, it is aiding and abetting terror groups in Pakistan to create chaos and anarchy.
In this regard India has specifically focused Karachi and the restive province of Balochistan. The veracity of the claim has been proved by none other than Kulbhushan Yadav himself who confessed it in the following words:
“I was picked up by RAW in 2013 end. Ever since I have been directing various activities in Balochistan and Karachi at the behest of RAW and deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, I was basically the man for Mr Ani Kumar Gupta who is the joint secretary RAW and his contacts in Pakistan especially in Balochistan Student Organization. My purpose was to hold meetings with Baloch insurgents and carry out activities with their collaboration.”
RAW’s involvement in fomenting trouble in Balochistan has been an issue that Pakistan, time and again, has raised at various international fora during the last several years. But, it is, perhaps, for the first time that graphic details have come to surface and that too from the man assigned with the task. Confessional statement of Yadav should serve as an eye-opener for all those who believe that India has accepted the reality of Pakistan and reports about its bad intentions and designs are mere conjectures and propaganda.
Another important aspect of the confessional statement is that besides fomenting sectarianism to abetting and financing terrorists and separatists in different parts of the country, RAW has also been out to subvert the CPEC at all costs.
From day one, Indian leadership has been churning out venom against this mega project that has the potential to put Pakistan on the path of sustainable development and make it region’s trade and economic hub. It was understood that the Indian leaders will not confine only to just verbal statements but because of their bitter animosity toward Pakistan, they will go to extreme end to create hurdles in the way of the project. Yadav’s admission should leave no doubt in the minds of anybody that despite Pakistan’s efforts to normalize relations with India, the latter is not ready to budge from hurting the very interests of Pakistan and can cross any limits to weaken it.
CPEC is a game changer for Pakistan and the concerned quarters need to take all the necessary steps to keep it safe from any sordid design. In the past also, several mega projects such as Kalabagh Dam which had the potential to kick-start the country’s economy were sabotaged through different tactics by the enemy as it does not want Pakistan making any headway towards the road of progress and prosperity. Nevertheless, this time around the situation is different and we are sure India will not be able to cultivate any obstacles in the way of the CPEC as the project has the backing of the whole nation. It is not only the project of Planning Commission but the entire government, political parties and the army are standing at the back of it. Come what may, the nation is firm to ensure completion of the project for a better and bright future of the country.
The incarceration of Kulbushan Yadav has provided Pakistan with an opportunity to expose Indian involvement in Pakistan. It must now project to the world that India is a hostile neighbour and needs to curb its heinous plot utilizing the RAW factor for promoting state terrorism against Pakistan. Besides exposing India at international fora, there is also a dire need to immediately launch a country-wide operation with spirit and determination of Zarb-e-Azb to eliminate all sorts of foreign agents from Pakistani soil.
